Jay Chimpoulis is the founder and managing partner of Chimpoulis & Hunter, P.A. He has been representing physicians and other health care professionals for over 34 years and has earned Martindale Hubbell’s prestigious AV rating as well as their Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He is also an elected member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an exclusive organization comprised of South Florida’s top trial attorneys. Jay also continues to be recognized as one of the South Florida’s Super Lawyers by Florida Super Lawyers magazine. He maintains a busy trial practice in medical malpractice and personal injury claims involving significant loss. Jay practices statewide, concentrating in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. He has also argued  before the Third and Fourth District Courts of Appeal in South Florida.

Originally from Chicago, Jay attended DePauw University in Indiana, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 1979. He received his Juris Doctorate from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago and is admitted to practice law in both Florida and Illinois.

Jay has an extensive medical background. During college, he worked as a hospital-based paramedic and later, while attending law school, a product line specialist for Smith Kline Labs in the Medical Instruments Division. Over the years, his medical training and experience has been an invaluable asset in defending a wide array of complex medical malpractice cases, as well as significant personal injury claims from inception through verdict.

In the community, Jay has been active on the Nova Law School Advisory Board of Paralegal Studies and regularly lectures to students of that institution’s medical, dental, nursing, optometry and pharmacy schools. He was also an Adjunct Professor in Barry University’s Legal Assistant Institute in Miami. He has lectured and written extensively on various medical and legal topics including risk management and litigation strategy. Jay is a member of Florida Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute and a former office of the Florida Medical Malpractice Claims Counsel as well as various local and state bar associations. Jay is also co-founder, vice-president and general counsel of Davie Tackle Football & Cheerleaders, Inc., an athletic program serving for 300 boys and girls, ages 6 through 14.

As  a former NCAA football player, Jay believes strongly in a team approach to defending cases. He works closely with insurers and insureds, involving them and seeking their input in all phases of the litigation process. He also instills teamwork along with a strong work ethic in each of the firm’s attorneys to ensure the best possible results for the clients.
